Additional rudder

Extra rudder exterior

This picture clearly shows the newly attached second rudder. Perfectly in line with the main rudder and in perfect sync. This makes the steering installation 100% complete, and solves the Vega's well-known steering problem. Because now there's water pressure onto the second rudder the moment the propellor starts turning in forward, we have immediate steering capability. Production & assembly by: Arend Schram in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.

All mechanical components are neatly hidden onder this cover. If there's any problem with the stub tiller, the extra rudder has its own spare tiller which can be attached in a moment.Despite all the new mechanical components there's plenty of stowage space left in the rear locker.

All parts are produced from 100% stainless steel and anodised aluminium. The new rudder shaft is laminated to the bilge with multiple extra layers of glassfibre and epoxy resin. This will guarantee an absolutely waterproof seal.

The stainless steel cables are connected to the large springs. The cables are easy to remove from the springs during maintenance work for example. The plywood bottom of the side locker still has to be installed.
